Since 2001 PA has participated in the annual Yukon River Quest - a 715 km canoe/kayak race from Whitehorse to Dawson City. Our canoe has room for 8 paddlers.

Paddling (as a form of exercise) offers a chance to regain function and a sense of control after treatment. It has also been proven to lower the risk of other complications such as lymphedema.

We emphasize that you do not have to be an athlete to join the team. Each of us brings an individual strength; and you must simply share a vision to achieve your personal best as a paddler and team member. Our goal is not to win the race but to have participants share the journey.

PA also has a recreational program geared towards those who may not want to race but would like to participate in less strenuous paddles.

Eleven women were interested in paddling, some who had never been in a canoe before. Our two coaches looked at each other: “They have a long way to go!” they said.

Ten years later I’m still paddling. The group - individuals that make up the whole - has touched a lot of lives, and the river keeps teaching me lessons.  I’ll continue as long as I am able.
